Good morning, Monrovians! 

Of all the races she’s completed, Lesley’s favorite was the New York City Marathon. Living in New York at the time gave her the unique opportunity to train along the actual course. She loved the energy of the city and the experience of running through its iconic neighborhoods and landmarks throughout the route.

While Lesley didn’t need much convincing to lace up her shoes, her story serves as a reminder that the people around us, whether friends, family members, or neighbors, can quietly lead us toward some of life’s most meaningful adventures!

Join the City of Monrovia for free family-friendly movie nights under the stars! Grab your blankets, lawn chairs, and snacks, and head to a different park every Saturday at dusk for a free movie!

Summer Concerts in the Park

Join us every Sunday this month at the Rotary Club Band Shell at Library Park (321 S Myrtle Ave) for our Summer Concerts in the Park series!

Don't forget - we will also continue to host our Station Square Family Festival from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Sunday at Station Square (1629 S Myrtle Ave)! There will be food, family activities, and a beer garden! Don't miss out on the fun!

Peck Road and Mountain Ave Infrastructure Improvements Project Begin

The City’s contractor All American Asphalt will continue the Peck Rd. and Mountain Ave. Infrastructure Improvement Project.

For the week of July 21 through July 25, residents should expect the contractor to perform work along Mountain Avenue (from Foothill Blvd. to Huntington Dr.) along the southbound lanes, including repair of damaged concrete sidewalks, driveway ramps, and curbs and gutters.

Drivers should expect a single driving lane open for south-bound traffic during the construction hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Please plan for delays, and we appreciate your understanding.

Local residents should expect on-street parking restrictions and increased noise during construction hours. Regular street sweeping will not take place in the work area during construction hours, so please take note of posted construction parking signage.

We recognize that construction can be messy and inconvenient, and thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience as we work through these improvements!

Draft EIR Now Available: 701 S. Myrtle Mixed-Use Project

The City of Monrovia has released the Draft Environmental Impact Report (Draft EIR) for the 701 S. Myrtle Specific Plan and Development Project, a five-story, mixed-use development proposed just south of Old Town. The project would redevelop a 1.61-acre site currently occupied by a one-story light industrial building with 204 residential units (including 20 affordable units), neighborhood-serving retail, and a fitness center.

The Draft EIR evaluates how the project could affect the environment, including topics like noise, cultural resources, and hazards. It concludes that all potential impacts would be reduced to less than significant levels through mitigation measures and compliance with regulations.

July's Pet of the Month at the Pasadena Humane Society

Meet Mustang! Mustang is a 2-year-old German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix with tons of energy and compassion! He may even be a perfect fit as a potential running buddy if you’re hitting the trails!

Call for Artist - Satoru Tsuneishi Park Mural

The City of Monrovia is seeking an artist to create a mural at Satoru Tsuneishi Park. The park is currently under construction and will include a playground, passive recreation space, picnic tables, and enhanced landscape for the community to enjoy.

The goal of the Project is to convey the story of Asian Americans in Monrovia, reflecting their distinguished history and the impact they had on the local agriculture and our community. In addition, this is an opportunity to celebrate Historic Route 66 as the park makes it home along the historic route. 

Applications are due July 31 at 6 p.m.

Satoru Tsuneishi Park Project Updates

The City’s contractor RG General Engineering will continue the Satoru Tsuneishi Park Project, at the intersection of Encino Ave. and Alta St.

For the week of July 21 through July 25, residents should expect the contractor to perform the following activities:

• Construct Park Shade Structure foundations
• Construct Sidewalks and Curb and Gutter

Local residents should expect on-street parking restrictions, increased traffic, and increased noise between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Regular street sweeping will not take place in the work area during construction hours, so please take note of posted construction parking signage.

 Summer Art Walks - TODAY, July 18

Join Monrovia Association of Fine Arts (MAFA) this Friday, at the Monrovia Street Fair & Market! Artists and crafters will be selling a wide variety of work, and many will be demonstrating their talents. 

Summer Art Walks will take place at the Friday Monrovia Street Fair & Market (700 S. Myrtle Ave.) from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event in Arcadia

Bring your HHW & E-Waste to dispose of FREE of charge

 Los Angeles County residents can participate in this one-day collection event to properly dispose of household hazardous waste such as antifreeze, unused pharmaceuticals, car batteries, used motor oil, paint, pesticides, home-generated sharps waste, e-waste, and more. It's a free and easy way to safely dispose of items that are too toxic to trash.

Date & Time: Saturday, August 2, 2025 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Location: Santa Anita Race Track, Gate 6 Colorado Place Arcadia, CA 91007

• Limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste per trip.
• Items not accepted: tires, explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials, controlled substances, and large appliances (e.g., refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, etc.)
•  Carefully secure items in your trunk/pick-up bed. Hazardous waste must be in your trunk/pick-up bed with no other items.
•  Waste should be in a sturdy box, preferably in their original containers. Be prepared to leave containers.
•  No business waste accepted.
