Statement on Recent ICE Activity in Monrovia
On Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 9:43 a.m., a member of the Monrovia Police Department received a call regarding possible Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in Monrovia. The officer observed ICE agents approaching Home Depot at 1625 Mountain Avenue where ICE then conducted enforcement activities on site. The City does not have information about the ICE operation, whether individuals were arrested/detained, or names of individuals involved.
During the ICE activity, one person fled on foot, crossing Evergreen Avenue and entered onto the eastbound 210 Freeway. At 9:52 a.m., Monrovia Fire & Rescue responded to a call of a vehicle collision with the pedestrian. The person was transported by ambulance to an area hospital. The City confirmed the pedestrian later died at that hospital. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is currently conducting a traffic investigation.
There is no ongoing ICE activity reported in Monrovia at this time, and the City has not received any communication or information from ICE. While we understand community members want to know more about the incident, the information provided in this update is all the City has to provide at this time. Please do not contact the Monrovia Police Department emergency or non-emergency lines for any updates or additional information regarding this incident as these calls delay responses to ongoing emergencies.
We extend our condolences for the individual and his family. We also express our appreciation to the Monrovia Police Department and its volunteers, Monrovia Fire & Rescue as well as the California Highway Patrol.
On behalf of the Monrovia City Council and the City of Monrovia,
Dylan Feik
City Manager
