City Manager's Update | August 22, 2025
Good morning, Monrovians,
Has everyone been training for "Fountain to the Falls?" In two weeks, many of us will lace up our running shoes (or in my case, walking shoes) and welcome back a community-favorite event. If you can't join us for the 6.5 mile event, please consider cheering us along as we make our way from the Library Fountain to Monrovia Falls...and back!
Along the route, you'll see historic homes, tree-lined streets, wildlife and nature, and experience the "small town" joy we all feel when hosting community events. But most importantly, you'll meet many wonderful friends and neighbors. In fact, one of our premiere programs which connects our neighborhoods is the Monrovia Area Partnership (MAP).
Since inception in 2006, MAP has continuously evolved to meet the changing needs of our community. With origins in neighborhood blight (think "shopping carts, weeds and broken windows") to community leadership and empowerment activities. MAP has been building our community and creating partnerships for nearly two decades.

And now it's time for our MAP Leadership Academy for both adults and youth. This free program has been instrumental in creating pathways for community members to take on bigger leadership roles in Monrovia and beyond. It has helped youth graduates become involved with our Teen Advisory Board, Youth Commission, and Youth Employment Services (YES) Intern program. Many of our adult graduates have gone on to serve on various Boards and Commissions, and even City Council! The success stories from our graduates are truly inspiring and a testament to the impact of the program.
To date, the MAP Leadership Academy has graduated over 500 leaders, both youth and adult, who continue making significant contributions to our community. Last year alone, 18 teens and 10 adults graduated the academy, and we hope to have a larger class this year! If you're interested in being more involved, want to learn how to take on leadership roles, or want to make new connections, I encourage you to join! To enroll, fill out the online application. Classes begin September 3rd! Visit our website for more information.
Sincerely,
Dylan

Safe Streets for All Survey - Extended!
Submit your feedback through September 30, 2025! The City is continuing to collect feedback from all roadway users to improve traffic safety and expand bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. In addition to reporting safety concerns, we encourage you to share other travel-related challenges or observations in Monrovia.
Here are a few examples of helpful feedback:
- “I’d bike more often, but there’s nowhere to park my bike, so I drive instead.”
- “I bike to work on [street name] and see others doing the same. It could benefit from a bike lane or other safety features.”
- “Drivers often speed on [street name], which makes the area feel unsafe.”
- “The bollards at [intersection] make pedestrians more visible. [Different intersection] could benefit from a similar installation, as it’s difficult to see when pedestrians are crossing the street.”
The survey will be available until September 30, 2025. Complete the survey using the following link: https://app.maptionnaire.com/q/monroviacsapbikeplan
Stay connected! Project updates will continue to be posted on the SS4A website. To receive email updates or meeting notices, contact ssousa@monroviaca.gov.
