City Manager's Update | November 14, 2025

Post Date:11/14/2025 10:30 AM

Good morning, Monrovians!

Thank you so much to all those who joined us on Tuesday, November 11th to celebrate Veterans Day. The event was a tremendous success with a larger crowd than usual...all celebrating and honoring those who have served and who are serving our country. As we continue hosting community gatherings during the holiday season, please plan us next week for our annual "Thankful & Grateful Holiday Gathering and Tree Lighting." The event is scheduled to take place next Thursday, November 20, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Library Park (321 S Myrtle Ave)! As we all brace for the forthcoming rain, the inclement weather could impact the event so please bear with us. Right now the forecast is showing rain in the morning so we're hopeful and optimistic the event will continue as planned.

This festive evening will offer something for all ages, including live entertainment, community activity booths, arts and crafts, photo opportunities, a truck petting zoo, library story times, and horse-drawn carriage rides. Be sure to stay for the Holiday Tree Lighting at 6:00 p.m., when a very special guest will help us officially welcome the holiday season in Monrovia!

We also want to take a moment to say "thank you" to so many for attending the annual "Halloween Spooktacular & Trick-or-Treat Bash." below are some of our favorite photos...we got to experience the most creative and fun costumes we've seen yet! Thousands filled the streets of Old Town and it was wonderful to see so many in our community come together with imagination and spirit. I would also like to thank our event sponsors, Old Town merchants, volunteers, and staff who made the event possible and memorable!

We hope you continue to join us at all the events we have planned this holiday season!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Dylan

Proposed Assessment District: Monrovia Citywide Lighting, Landscaping, and Parks Maintenance District - Ballots Due November 18

There’s still time to return your ballot for the proposed Monrovia Citywide Lighting, Landscaping, and Parks Maintenance District, but the deadline is fast approaching.

Ballots must be received by next Tuesday, November 18.

The proposed assessment district would establish a new district to replace the City’s two existing assessment districts, which have funded neighborhood lighting, landscaping, traffic signals, and park upkeep since the 1990s. The new district is designed to provide a stable, long-term funding source to maintain the community amenities that make Monrovia a safe, attractive, and welcoming place to live.

If approved, the district would allow the City to continue investing in lighting, safety, and green spaces, with new assessment rates phased in gradually over five years.

Property owners should have already received a ballot, fact sheet, and instructions in the mail. If you haven’t submitted your ballot yet, please do so soon. Every vote counts in determining the future of this community investment.

To learn more, visit the City’s website for background information, timelines, and an interactive map of proposed rates.
