City Manager's Update | November 26, 2025

Post Date:11/26/2025 10:30 AM

Good morning, Monrovians!

We're sharing this weekly update a little early to catch you all before the holiday. On behalf of the City Council, staff and volunteers, we'd like to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and sincerely hope you enjoy the holiday with your loved ones!

This week's City Manager's Update has been prepared to showcase all of our holiday-themed events this season. These special events wouldn't be possible without the hard work and support of City staff, the Monrovia Old Town Advisory Board, countless merchants and business owners, event sponsors, volunteers, and all of YOU that join us!

While the festivities bring so much joy to our community, I’d also like to share a message for Monrovians who may be navigating a more challenging season. If this time of the year feels heavy for you or your family, please know you’re not facing it alone. Our community is full of kindhearted people who genuinely want to support one another...it's why this year's theme for the City is "A Welcome Place." From community partners and groups such as the Foothill Unity Center, the Volunteer Center of San Gabriel Valley, Food ED, to the Canyon Park Trail Volunteers, and so many more groups in town, there is always room  to welcome a new member, volunteer, and friend. If you’re looking for extra support, our partners at Care Solace can help connect you with services and resources tailored to your mental health needs.

As a reminder, City facilities will be closed tomorrow, November 27 and Friday, November 28 as we observe the Thanksgiving holiday. Regular operations will resume on Monday, December 1.

Have a great Thanksgiving and weekend!

Sincerely,

Dylan

Know How to Dispose Fats, Oils, and Grease This Holiday Season

Did you know fats, oils, and grease (FOGs) will clog your pipes and may cause a sewage backup into your home or a sewer spill in the street that goes down the storm drain and into the ocean? Fats, oils, and grease can stick to the insides of sewer pipes when washed down the kitchen plumbing system, potentially solidifying and blocking pipes.

Here are some quick Dos and Don’ts this holiday season:

  • Do wipe down greasy pots and pans with a dry paper towel and dispose of it in your organics recycling container.
  • Do pour cooled FOG into a can or a container with a tight lid and dispose of it in the garbage.
  • Do not pour FOG down the garbage disposal or sink drain
  • Do not use hot water to wash the grease down the drain.

If you are using a turkey fryer this holiday season and have a large amount of oil leftover, pour the cooled oil into a container and dispose of it in your trash container.

If you have any questions, please contact Public Works at 626-932-5575.

Holiday Water-Saving Tips

As the holiday season begins, it's easy to get caught up in all the festivities, but even during this busy time, there are ways to celebrate and conserve water! Here are a few tips to keep your holiday season water-wise:

In the Kitchen

  • Run the dishwasher only when it’s full
  • Scrape dishes instead of rinsing before loading
  • Reuse cooking water when possible

Decorating

  • Use drought-tolerant greenery in wreaths and decorations
  • Choose native or drought-tolerant plants in holiday arrangements
  • Avoid fresh cut flowers

Hosting Guests

  • Fix leaks before guests arrive
  • Remind guests to turn off the tap when washing hands and brushing teeth
  • Wait for full loads before doing laundry

The City continues to offer rebates on water-saving devices for homes and businesses. Visit our website for more information.
