Good morning, Monrovians!

The Monrovia City Council invites you all to join us for the "2026 State of the City" event at LOOK Cinemas on Tuesday, February 10! The evening will kickoff with a pre-event reception at 6:00 p.m., followed by the 2026 State of the City address at 7:00 p.m.

The evening includes a welcome reception where you mingle with neighbors, board and commission members, and the City Council / staff. Then at 7pm, with popcorn, soda and snacks in hand, we'll head into the theater for a presentation by the City Council. They will share many highlights from last year (there are many) and even highlight some accomplishments of community members, businesses, and organizations! In Memory of Mabel Cross

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of our own at the City of Monrovia. Mabel Cross, who retired at the end of 2025, has recently passed away.

Mabel served the Monrovia community as a Librarian, where she was a valued contributor to many of the our library programs. She was especially known for her integral role in the development and success of the Veterans Resource Center, where she worked with passion and determination to ensure veterans not only received the benefits they earned, but also had their voices heard. Through Mabel's efforts, many local veterans were able to preserve their stories through the Library of Congress Veterans History Project.

Above all, Mabel will be remembered as a kind, caring, and dedicated colleague and friend. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

Discover the Wonders of the Universe with the Sidewalk Astronomers | Sunday, February 1

Join us on Sunday, February 1, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., for an engaging and family friendly morning at Canyon Park Nature Center as we celebrate the opening of our newest exhibit, Wonders of the Universe, featuring the Sidewalk Astronomers.

Members of the Sidewalk Astronomers, a dedicated group of volunteer astronomy enthusiasts, will share the beauty and mystery of the night sky and their passion for making astronomy accessible to everyone. Known for bringing telescopes into public spaces, they invite people of all ages to look up and explore the universe together. From nearby planets and brilliant stars to distant galaxies, their work inspires curiosity, wonder, and a deeper appreciation of our place in the cosmos.

Guests will also enjoy an up close look at the Canyon Park Nature Center’s new astronomy themed exhibit, featuring visual aids, stunning astrophotography, and celestial highlights that bring the science of space down to Earth. The exhibit will be on display from February through April.

Whether you’re a seasoned stargazer or just beginning your journey into astronomy, this event offers a unique opportunity to connect with the universe and your community in a whole new way.

This free exhibit is presented in coordination with One City, One Story, our citywide literacy program that brings the community together through a shared book, meaningful conversations, and winter-long experiences inspired by nature, creativity, and community.
