City Manager's Update | February 6, 2026

Post Date:02/06/2026 10:30 AM

Good morning, Monrovians!

Over the years, this weekly newsletter has grown from 600 subscribers to more than 12,000! It has been a wonderful way for the City, and me personally, to connect with so many in our community. The newsletter is a team effort and we work very hard to share the most important updates and content. We share information about events and upcoming projects. We share job opportunities and ribbon cuttings. And we try to connect you to your community...I love this newsletter.

But every now-and-then, I hope to use the newsletter to make a difference in someone's life. Today is certainly one of those days.

On February 4th, one of our Monrovia community members, a student at MHS, suffered the unexpected loss of her mother...only 2 short months after the unexpected passing of her father. I do not know her personally but I know many who do. For those who wish to support the family financially, and I invite each of you to consider offering support during this time, there is a GoFundMe page established here.

If you ever wonder what keeps a city manager up at night, it's not the closure of a downtown theater, closing of a middle school, or even a car fire in front the post office. What keeps me up is thinking of people like this young woman. Questions like "Have I done any good in the world today? Have I helped anyone in need?" run through my mind as I lie awake.

Our thoughts and prayers will be with her and those supporting and comforting her during this unimaginable time. I'd also like to share a special "thank you...I love you guys" to the first responders who responded to the call.

As you know by now, we have relocated the 2026 State of the City Address to Monrovia High School from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10th.Please come join the City Council and hundreds of your friends and neighbors as we pack the Louise K. Taylor Performing Arts Center at Monrovia High School. I'd like to express our gratitude to the Monrovia Unified School Board, Superintendent Dr. Hart Rodas, Dr. Z, and the many others who stepped in and helped out on such short notice!

The evening will begin with a reception at 6 p.m. to connect with fellow community members while enjoying light refreshments, followed by the State of the City Address and presentation at 7 p.m. Although the venue has changed, we still have plenty of popcorn, snacks and small gifts for those who attend. And of course we'll have the pleasure of hearing from our award-winning City Council and the City's amazing accomplishments over the past year. I hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Dylan

Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Annual Comprehensive Report

The City of Monrovia undergoes an annual financial audit each year which consists of a review of our financial records, internal processes, asset management, system reliability, and account activity and balances. For Fiscal Year 2024-2025, our independent auditors issued the City an unmodified "clean" opinion, which is the best opinion a city can receive from auditors.

The Annual Comprehensive Report for FY2024-2025, along with earlier fiscal year audits, is available on our website.

Monrovia Public Library Enhancement Project Update

Earlier this week, City Council held a Study Session to review the status of the Monrovia Public Library Enhancement Project and discuss proposed project updates.

City Council and staff considered several interior improvements to expand the children's wing of the library to meet the growing needs of the community. The proposed improvements would nearly triple the Storytime Room from 700 sq. ft. to 2,000 sq. ft.! Additionally, proposed interior improvements would expand storage space for bulkier everyday items such as tables and chairs, and increase the number of private study rooms available for use.

The Library has seen a sustained increase in attendance, programing, and community engagement every year since the pandemic, and we're working diligently to make quality improvements that allow us to continue to serve every generation in Monrovia. We'll be sure to share more information as it becomes available!

SCE Inspections Using Drones & Helicopters

Southern California Edison (SCE) will be conducting aerial inspections in neighborhoods throughout Monrovia over the next few weeks as part of their wildfire prevention and mitigation program.

These aerial inspections last between 30-60 minutes and allow SCE to view equipment from multiple angles, including overhead, for a complete 360-degree assessment to identify any damage or potential hazards on poles and towers that may need repair to help keep our community safe.
