City Manager's Update | February 27, 2026

Post Date:02/27/2026 10:30 AM

 Good morning, Monrovians!

Earlier this month, Monrovia Reads launched One City, One Story in partnership with many local organizations. This citywide reading program invites residents of all ages to explore The Bear, by Andrew Krivak, and companion books for younger readers which center on themes of nature, resilience, and connection. Over the past several weeks, some of your favorite non-profit and community organizations have hosted activities and events across city parks, the library, and public spaces. As the program wraps up February and moves into March, there are still several opportunities to participate! We could not be more proud to participate in this program!

One City, One Story – Upcoming Events

Kicking off the weekend is Stargazing in Canyon Park tonight at 6 p.m. In partnership with the Sidewalk Astronomers, come explore the cosmos and learn how our galaxy and universe connect to the natural world. Few may know that our City’s name happens to travel through space! An asteroid discovered in 1986 by Marian Rudnik, orbiting between Mars and Jupiter, was officially named Monrovia!

Tomorrow (Saturday)

  • 9 a.m. – Park Read-In at Recreation Park, hosted by MPWR
  • 10 a.m. – Kids Crafts in Canyon Park, where families can explore nature and turn their discoveries into art with our Park Naturalists
  • 2 p.m. – Bear-themed Family Program (Ages 6–11) at the Library, featuring interactive activities about California black bears and how we safely share space
  • 3 p.m. – Guided Hike with a Park Naturalist, beginning at the Canyon Park Nature Center and ending at the waterfall (register here)

Sunday – Tuesday

  • Sunday, 1 p.m. – History of Canyon Park at the Monrovia Historical Museum
  • Monday, 4:30 p.m. – Meditation in the Park at Kiwanis Park
  • Tuesday, 6 p.m. – Nature Crafts Night for adults at the Library, featuring a creative 3D cardboard mountain scene activity (register here)

We hope you’ll join us for one or several of our activities over the next few days!

Have a great weekend,

Sincerely,

Dylan
