City Manager's Update | March 13, 2026

Post Date:03/13/2026 10:30 AM

Good morning, Monrovians!

A famous doctor once said, "Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve." Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was right! It is always meaningful when a Monrovia native gives back to their community, and even more so when that services reaches our youth. Monrovia Unified School District counselor Alana Elliott, a Monrovia High School graduate, has received national recognition through the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) award for her outstanding school counseling program at Monroe Elementary! This well deserved honor speaks to her dedication to supporting student success and well-being, and we are proud to celebrate the positive difference she is making for Monrovia students and families. Please join me in congratulating Ms. Elliott, Monroe Elementary and our School District for this wonderful achievement!

I'm also happy to share that we are now accepting applications for our YES Internship Program! The annual summer YES Internship provides local high school students with the opportunity to gain hands-on job experience while building their confidence and professional skills. Throughout the eight-week program, interns are placed within City departments and community partners, where they work alongside mentors, participate in weekly professional development sessions, and learn valuable skills like resume writing, financial literacy, and public speaking. By the end of the summer, it is always rewarding to see how much our interns have grown in confidence, experience, and their sense of connection to their community!

The YES Internship is open to Monrovia residents and/or students within the Monrovia Unified School District who will be between the ages of 15 1/2 - 18 years old by June 1st. For more information, the application is available online.

Have a great weekend,

Sincerely,

Dylan

Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Draft Plans and Final Community Meeting

The City of Monrovia is pleased to announce that the Draft Comprehensive Safety Action Plan and Draft Bicycle Master Plan Update are now available for public review. These plans are the result of data analysis and community input over the past several months, and we are grateful to everyone who participated by attending meetings, completing surveys, and sharing valuable insights about transportation and mobility in Monrovia.

Your feedback helped shape a set of strategies and project recommendations aimed at improving safety for all roadway users. In addition to guiding future improvements, these plans will help the City to pursue competitive grant funding for the projects identified within them. Community members are encouraged to review the draft plans on the project website and share comments or questions by emailing ssousa@monroviaca.gov.

To learn more about the plans, please join us for an upcoming virtual community meeting on Wednesday, March 25, at 6:00 p.m. Register online today!

We look forward to continuing the conversation and working together to make Monrovia’s streets safer and well-connected for all!
