Good morning, Monrovians!

Over the last several weeks, we've kicked off Summer Concerts in the Park, the Summer Reading Program at Monrovia Public Library, and the Summer Program Opportunities for Teens (SPOT), and two more opportunities to get out and enjoy summer are just around the corner!

On Monday, June 8, the Monrovia High School pool opens to the public through a partnership with Monrovia Unified School District and the Santa Anita Family YMCA. The Summer Pool Program offers free swim, lap swim, and paid swim lessons through July 31. Free/open swim runs Monday through Saturday from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. and is open to all ages at no cost. Lap swim is available Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., also free, for swimmers ages 15 and up. Neither program requires registration...just show up and jump in!

Swim lessons are also available on a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday schedule, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sessions start at $85 for four classes and $135 for eight. To register or learn more, visit the YMCA website or contact the Santa Anita Family YMCA at 626-359-9244!

Next weekend, get ready for an evening of fun, food, and community connections! We invite residents of all ages to join us for our annual Monrovia Area Partnership (MAP) Block Party on Saturday, June 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Julian Fisher Park!

The Block Party is a free community event designed to bring neighbors together, strengthen community ties, and celebrate the spirit of Monrovia. Guests can enjoy complimentary food and refreshments, music, youth and family activities, games, and opportunities to connect with fellow residents and City staff in a relaxed and welcoming environment! Since 2008, MAP has served as a cornerstone of community engagement in Monrovia, helping to inform, connect, and empower residents through programs that strengthen neighborhoods and foster civic involvement, and the Block Party is just one of the many ways we help build meaningful relationships in Monrovia while creating a stronger sense of community pride.

Whether you're a longtime resident or new to our All-America City, we encourage you to bring your family, invite your neighbors, and join us for this fun-filled evening!

Summer Program Opportunities for Teens (SPOT)

The City's Summer Program Opportunities for Teens (SPOT) returns to Library Park! Every Friday starting today through August 7, students in 6th through 12th grade are invited out from 5 to 9:30 p.m. for a themed night of activities, sports, games, art, music, and free meals from local restaurants. This summer's lineup includes 50s Night, a World Cup Kickoff, Wild Wild West, laser tag, mini golf, dodgeball, and more, with weekly prize and giveaway opportunities for those who keep coming back!

Summer Reading Kickoff at Monrovia Public Library | Saturday, June 6

The Monrovia Public Library's Summer Reading Kickoff event takes place tomorrow, June 6, at Library Park from 12 to 3 p.m.! Expect inflatables, a bubble dance party, a maze, crafts, Minute to Win It contests, and lawn games. The Summer Reading Program runs now through July 31 and is open to all ages. Sign up at the Library, pick a free prize book to start, and complete your Summer Passport to earn more rewards! Stop back in July for your second prize book. The Summer Reading Program is free and open to everyone!

The Birds of Monrovia Canyon Park with Karen Suarez | Sunday, June 7

Join us at the Canyon Park Nature Center for the debut of our newest exhibit, The Birds of Monrovia Canyon Park, a breathtaking collection featuring the wildlife photography of Karen Suarez. Through intimate and captivating images, the exhibit showcases the diverse bird species that call Monrovia Canyon Park home while highlighting their vital role in our local ecosystem.

The exhibit opens on Sunday, June 7, at 10:00 a.m. at the Canyon Park Nature Center. Come and experience this inspiring visual journey and celebrate the beauty of our native wildlife! The exhibit will remain on display from June through September, offering visitors a unique opportunity to connect with and appreciate the natural wonders of Monrovia Canyon Park. Monrovia Pride Book Festival | Saturday, June 20

Underdog Bookstore proudly presents the inaugural Monrovia Pride Book Festival on Saturday, June 20, from 12-6 p.m. at Monrovia Library Park!

Join Underdog Bookstore for a celebration of queer storytelling, featuring over 50 authors and vendors, performances, community building, and free activities for all ages to enjoy.

Community partners include the SGV LGBT Center, the Trans Queer Institute, and PFLAG San Gabriel Valley Asian Pacific Islander Chapter. Free books from Tardis Free Library and Underdog Bookstore will also be given out to promote access to banned and challenged LGBTQIA+ books. Monrovia Community Garden Summer Solstice Garden Party | Saturday, June 20

The Monrovia Community Garden is hosting a Summer Solstice Garden Party on Saturday, June 20, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at 303 W. Take the Plunge at the Monrovia Historical Museum

Summer is a great time to visit the Monrovia Historical Museum, and this year, there's even more reason to stop in! Housed in the historic 1925 Plunge building, the Museum is currently featuring a new exhibit celebrating the 100th anniversary of Route 66, with stories of the Mother Road and detailed recreations of historic Monrovia landmarks along the route. Whether you're a longtime history enthusiast or just looking for a locally rooted afternoon, it's worth the visit!

The Monrovia Historical Museum is located at Recreation Park and is open Thursdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.

Monrovia Public Library's Annual Patron Survey | May 29 – June 30

The Monrovia Public Library invites community members to take part in our Annual Patron Survey from May 29 through June 30. The survey takes less than 5 minutes to complete and helps the library better understand community needs, improve services, and plan for the future. Whether you visit the library every week or only occasionally, your feedback is valuable. Plus, you can enter a prize drawing at the end of the survey (the winner will be notified in July). Parking Enforcement Update

The City is making a change to how street sweeping parking restrictions are enforced, one worth knowing about if you park on a residential street.

For years, residents have been allowed to move their vehicles back into posted "No Parking" areas once the street sweeper passed, even while the parking restriction period was still in effect. This practice created inconsistency, and the Monrovia Police Department is moving to enforce posted "no parking" signage as they're posted. This means the "No Parking 10am-12pm" sign will be enforced between 10am-12pm. We'll be posting flyers on windows this upcoming week and want all residents to be aware of the change moving forward, regardless of whether the sweeper has already come through.

No changes are being made to posted times, signs, or routes, only to how the hours are applied and signage is enforced.

Calling all Monrovia Walkers and Cyclists! Take our ACTV Phase 1 Project Survey

The City of Monrovia is finalizing plans for the Monrovia Active Community Travel Vinculum (ACTV) Phase 1 project, which will create new walking and biking connections across the I-210 freeway at Central, Evergreen, and Magnolia Avenues.

Your feedback is requested to confirm what matters to our community and make sure the final details fit the surrounding neighborhood. To take our project survey, visit our website.

Huntington Drive Project Continues

Drivers should expect traffic delays along Huntington Drive from Magnolia Avenue to Shamrock Avenue. Work is projected to last through June 2026.
