This weekend, a delegation of city staff and community members will be in Denver, Colorado, representing Monrovia as a finalist for the National Civic League's All-America City Award. This recognition shows our community's strength and dedication, and we're proud to be among 20 communities across the country!

This year's theme is "Strengthening Civic Health and Building Trust," and our presentation will highlight three programs that reflect that work in Monrovia:

• Community Activist Policing Bureau and SGV CARE: Our partnership between the Monrovia Police Department and the San Gabriel Valley Crisis Assistance Response and Engagement program that pairs officers with licensed clinicians and peer support specialists to respond to mental health crises.
• Biking for Bucks: Our pilot program that reimbursed residents for bicycle and safety equipment purchases, encouraging active transportation and reducing vehicle emissions across the city.
• Monrovia Community Adult School: Our school that connects adult learners, including English learners and job seekers, to high school diplomas, career training, and direct pathways to employment.

Our delegation will present to the jury tomorrow, from 1:50 to 2:10 p.m. MDT, and you can watch live on YouTube. I'm proud of our programs, but even more proud of our community and our people, and I look forward to showcasing what makes Monrovia an All-America City!

4th of July Concert & Firework Show at Library Park | Saturday, July 4

Join the City of Monrovia as we celebrate America's 250th birthday with a free community concert and fireworks show on Saturday, July 4, at Library Park, 321 S Myrtle Ave. OC Groove will perform from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., followed by a spectacular fireworks show at 9:00 p.m. Attendees are welcome to reserve a viewing space beginning the morning of July 4 and are encouraged to leave pets at home due to the noise and bright lights. Bike and Pedestrian Project Survey Closes Tonight, June 26

There's just one day left to submit feedback on the Monrovia Active Community Travel Vinculum (ACTV) Phase 1 project, which will create new walking and biking connections across the I-210 freeway at Central, Evergreen, and Magnolia Avenues.

Our project survey will be available through the end of the day today, June 26, to confirm what matters to our community and ensure the final details fit the surrounding neighborhood. To take our project survey, visit our website.

Solid Waste Service Rates Adjusting Starting July 1, 2026

Beginning July 1, 2026, solid waste collection rates will increase by 4.68% in accordance with the City's franchise agreement with Athens Services. This annual adjustment is based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and helps ensure continued reliable service for Monrovia residents and businesses.

Department of Energy Grant Sparks Retrofit of Huntington Drive Street Lights

In 2025, the City was awarded $85,000 from the US Department of Energy's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program for an LED retrofit of streetlights along the medians and sidewalks of Huntington Drive. Earlier this month, the City completed this retrofit, which benefits our community not only financially but also environmentally. LED streetlights use, on average, half the electricity as conventional streetlights. This results in both lower energy bills for the City and reduced carbon emissions from electricity generation.

Monrovia Receives National Endowment for the Arts Big Read Grant

The City of Monrovia has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to support the 2027 One City, One Story (OCOS) community reading program. The NEA Big Read brings communities together through shared reading experiences that inspire meaningful conversations, celebrate diverse voices, and foster connection through literature and the arts. In partnership with Monrovia Unified School District and local community organizations, this grant will support a variety of programs for all ages to celebrate the stories that connect us.

Monrovia Music Fest | Sunday, June 28

Seven hours of live music are coming to Library Park on Sunday, June 28! Creative Being, a local nonprofit, is hosting the free, all-ages Monrovia Music Fest from 12 to 7 p.m., with performances spanning indie, Latin, Afrobeats, folk, funk, soul, classic rock, new wave, and 80s rock.

On site you'll enjoy an artisan market, food trucks, kids zone, and a 5,000-square-foot craft beer and wine garden for guests 21 and older! VIP Lounge access is available for purchase. Leashed dogs are welcome, and parking is free in Old Town!

Monrovia Today Summer Issue Now Available | Summer Class Registration Now Open

The Summer issue of Monrovia Today is out now! Pick up a copy at City facilities or read it online for a full look at what's happening in Monrovia this season.

Summer class and program registration is also open now. The City is offering a variety of options for all ages, including dance, arts and crafts, fitness, sports, and enrichment programs. Spaces are limited and fill quickly, so early registration is encouraged. Visit us online to sign up or call the Monrovia Community Center at 626-256-8246 for assistance.

Monrovia Canyon Park Family Hike and Campout | June 27-28

Family Hike & Campout Returns to Canyon Park! Join us Saturday, June 27, 12 p.m. to Sunday, June 28, 12 p.m. for Canyon Park's Annual Family Hike & Campout at Fireman's Flat Picnic Area.

Enjoy an unforgettable overnight adventure featuring campfires, s'mores, guided day and night hikes, story time with the Monrovia Library, and fun filled activities for all ages. A barbecue dinner will be provided by Canyon Park staff, and guests will wake up to a delicious pancake breakfast hosted by City staff.

Grand Opening & Charity Soiree: The Arthur Blair Historic Inn | Saturday, July 4

A restored 1887 Victorian estate in Old Town Monrovia is opening its doors to the public this Fourth of July. The Arthur Blair Historic Inn, located at 512 S Ivy Ave., will host a Grand Opening Charity Soiree on Saturday, July 4, from 6 to 10 p.m., featuring self-guided tours, fine refreshments, and live chamber music.

The event honors the late Steve Baker, whose family home the property once was. Following his passing, co-owners worked with the Monrovia Old House Preservation Group to restore the Victorian estate over three years. The inn also includes a new cottage and bar and bistro.

All proceeds from the soiree will benefit the Monrovia Historical Society's Anderson House, supporting its ongoing restoration and Steve Baker's vision of an immersive home tour experience set in 1887 Monrovia. Tickets are available now online at Eventbrite.

Monrovia Public Library's Annual Patron Survey | May 29 – June 30

The Monrovia Public Library invites community members to take part in our Annual Patron Survey from May 29 through June 30. The survey takes less than 5 minutes to complete and helps the library better understand community needs, improve services, and plan for the future. Whether you visit the library every week or only occasionally, your feedback is valuable. Plus, you can enter a prize drawing at the end of the survey (the winner will be notified in July). Huntington Drive Project

Drivers should expect additional intermittent traffic delays along Huntington Drive from Magnolia Avenue to Shamrock Avenue. Work is projected to last through July 2026.
