The Monrovia Police Department invites everyone to National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Come join us for an incredible evening packed with food, family fun, local vendors, and exciting raffles. Most of all, it's a wonderful opportunity to come together and get to know the dedicated women and men behind the badge who serve our community every day!

The summer heat is definitely ramping up! To prevent heat-related illness, stay hydrated all day by drinking plenty of water even if you aren't thirsty. Avoid going outdoors during peak heat, wear lightweight clothing and sunscreen, and head to an air-conditioned space if your home gets too hot. Never leave children or pets in a parked car, and remember to check on vulnerable neighbors and loved ones. Finally, call 911 immediately if anyone shows severe symptoms like confusion, fainting, high fever, or dizziness.

If you need a comfortable place to cool down, the Monrovia Public Library and Community Center are available. The Library is open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Community Center is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Home Energy Review - Appointments Available

Trying to stay cool during this summer heat without significantly increasing your utility bills? The San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments' (SGVCOG) Efficient San Gabriel Valley (eSGV) program can help! 

The eSGV program offers free home energy evaluations to help residents identify ways to save both energy and money. The appointments include a 30 to 45 minute discussion with SGVCOG staff, who use a "whole house approach" to identify improvements and determine eligibility for potential rebates. The information is then used to create a free, personalized report.

Take Action Against Mosquitoes

Every year, the Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Health confirms numerous West Nile virus cases, including deaths. This month, the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District confirmed its first detection of West Nile Virus in the city of Monrovia this year. 

Free your home and repel mosquitoes by doing the following:

• Tip 'n Toss, Show them who's boss! - Mosquitoes can turn from egg to adult in about a week. So eliminate stagnant water weekly in and around the home, and keep your pool clean and maintained! 

• Repel, Don't Swell - Apply repellent to exposed skin to stop mosquito bites. Use Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus, which is EPA-registered and CDC-recommended. Other effective repellents are Picaridin, DEET, and IR3535

American Red Cross Calls for Blood Donors

The American Red Cross is calling on the community to help address a nationwide blood shortage after supplies dropped by nearly 25% over the past month. Eligible donors can support this urgent need by scheduling an appointment to donate, hosting a blood drive, or spreading the word to help replenish hospital shelves.

Old Town Monrovia Historic Walking Tour

The Monrovia Historic Preservation Group will be conducting another walking tour of historic downtown Monrovia on Saturday, August 1, at 10 a.m. The cost of the tour is $5 per person. Participants will meet at the SE corner of Palm and Myrtle Avenues. The 2-hour tour covers much of Monrovia’s past and present history, including the connection between the “Giant Orange” and the McDonalds franchise of restaurants. Don’t miss it!

VFW Post 2070 Poker Tournament Fundraiser 

Think you've got the winning hand? The VFW Post 2070 is hosting their Poker Tournament Fundraiser on Saturday, August 1, from 5 to 9 p.m.

With only 40 seats available, please arrive early or pre-register at VFW Post 2070, located at 825 Magnolia Ave., Monrovia, during our business hours: Monday–Saturday: 2 p.m. – 2 a.m. and Sunday: 12 p.m. – 12 a.m. To reserve your seat or ask questions, call (626) 359-9998.

The event is open to all, whether you're a seasoned poker player or just looking for a fun evening while supporting your local VFW!

MDBAA's Jazz and R&B Festival

If your perfect Saturday includes live jazz, smooth R&B, great food, and even better company, this is where you need to be! The Monrovia Duarte Black Alumni Association is excited to present the 2026 Jazz and R&B Festival, at Station Square Park, (1629 S. Myrtle Ave.), on Saturday, August 15, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. This is a 21‑and‑over event.

Pet Food Drive at Sierra Subaru of Monrovia

Sierra Subaru of Monrovia, in partnership with Starts With One Today, is helping provide comfort, care, and hope to the animals of Skid Row and they need your help! Make a difference by donating wet pet food, harnesses, or leashes at the Sales and Service Desk. This is an ongoing pet food drive, and every contribution is greatly appreciated!

RSVP Today! Community Bike Ride to Movie in the Park

Join us on Saturday, August 1, for a free, family-friendly Bike-In Movie Night! We’ll start with a community bike ride followed by a movie at Library Park. During the ride, we’ll ask for feedback to help improve the Monrovia cycling experience. The community ride will also start at Library Park, with participants expected to meet near the fountain. 

What to expect: 

• Approximately 7 miles of cycling with gradual elevation gain at a pace of 10-12 miles per hour (beginner/intermediate experience level)
• On-street biking, sharing space with cars and other roadway users
• Bike marshals will be present, helping lead the route and keeping the group together
• Share feedback on your experience riding in Monrovia through guided written and oral responses
• A fun evening spent with community!

What to bring: 

• A functional bicycle or wheeled device (highly recommended with gears; e-bikes are welcome)
• A helmet (required for ages under 18)
• Water bottle (filled with water)
• Bike lock (to secure bike during movie)
• Bike lights (front white light and back red light)
• Bikes with training wheels are not permitted, but children are welcome to attend if pulled in a trailer or on a bike child seat
• Bring layers, warm clothes, and/or jackets for when the sun goes down
• Seating for the movie (e.g. chairs and/or a blanket)

Participants should register before the event and indicate whether they’ll attend the Movie in the Park event after the ride. Those interested in just the movie do not need to RSVP.

Funding for the community bike ride portion of this event is provided by a grant with the California Office of Traffic Safety.

Work Around Town

For the week of August 3 through August 7, the following locations will have construction work that may alter traffic flow and/or sidewalk access. Please follow all directional signage and work instruction for your safety. 

Huntington Drive Project - Drivers should expect additional intermittent traffic delays at the Huntington Drive and Magnolia Avenue intersection. Work is projected to last through the close of the week.
