Fountain to the Falls Returns | Saturday, September 19

Join us on Saturday, September 19, 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for our annual Fountain to the Falls 10K Run and Walk, one of Monrovia's favorite community traditions. The event begins and ends at the Library Park Fountain (321 S Myrtle Ave.). The 6.38 mile course travels through Monrovia's northern neighborhoods, continues into Monrovia Canyon Park, reaches the Canyon Park Waterfall, before returning to Library Park. Registration opens Monday, August 17 on our website.

Runners and walkers of all ages are encouraged to register early. Every participant will receive a commemorative medal, and awards will be presented to the top male and female finishers in each age group as well as the overall winners. For more information, contact the Community Services Department at 626-256-8246. We look forward to seeing you at this year's event!

Monrovia Fire & Rescue Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Regional Task Force Training in Canyon Park

On August 18, 20, and 22, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monrovia Fire & Rescue will host their quarterly Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) training drills in Canyon Park. The training will include neighboring fire agencies that are members of USAR Regional Task Force 4 (RTF4): Glendale, Pasadena, Monterey Park, Alhambra, San Gabriel, Arcadia, and Monrovia. These quarterly trainings allow our firefighters to enhance rescue skills and strengthen operational readiness to respond to technical rescue incidents safely and effectively.

Canyon Park will remain open throughout the training. Residents can expect to see fire trucks, equipment, and personnel on-site. Roads will remain open, but a small portion of access to trails may be briefly paused as needed to accommodate the drills.

Monrovia Police Department to Hold DUI Checkpoint | Friday, September 4

The Monrovia Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint Friday, September 4, from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at an undisclosed location within city limits.

Checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing where impaired driving-related crashes occur, and the goal is to keep suspected impaired drivers off the road. We remind the public that impairment isn't limited to alcohol. Some prescription and over-the-counter medications can affect driving ability, and while medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under its influence is not. A first-time DUI conviction carries an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Questions can be directed to Sgt. Damien Bartholomy at 626-256-8020 or dbartholomy@monroviapd.org.

  • $2,500 includes all of the $500 and $1000 benefits, plus logo/name street banner placement
