Post Date:08/21/2026 10:30 AM

Good morning, Monrovians,

Registration is now open for one of Monrovia's favorite events! Please join us on Saturday, September 19, 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. for our annual Fountain to the Falls 10K Run and Walk! One of Monrovia's favorite community traditions, the 10K begins at the Library Park Fountain, travels through Monrovia's northern neighborhoods, continues into Monrovia Canyon Park to the Canyon Park Waterfall, before returning to Library Park.

Pre-registration is open through Friday, September 18 at 6 p.m. and costs $50. Fountain to the Falls is limited to 350 participants, so I encourage you to register early! Whether you choose to walk or run, every participant will receive a t-shirt and commemorative medal. For our most competitive participants, we'll also award trophies to the fastest finishers across all age groups, as well as medals to 1st-3rd place finishers for each male and female age groups!

If you're not interested in the 10K but would still like to get involved, we're looking for volunteers! Volunteers will be assigned to specific points along the route to help the event run smoothly, and all volunteers will receive a t-shirt!

Youth and Adult Leadership Academies Return This Fall!

The Monrovia Area Partnership (MAP) Program invites community members to participate in our 2026 Leadership Academies, a fun and interactive seven-week program designed to build informed, engaged, and effective community leaders.

Adult Leadership Academy participants will connect with City leaders and staff while exploring topics including civic engagement, strategic leadership, Monrovia history, historic preservation, community resources, and turning ideas into action. The Adult Leadership Academy will be held Thursday evenings, September 17 through October 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. at various City facilities.

Youth Leadership Academy participants will build skills and confidence while exploring topics including leadership development, financial literacy, local government education, public speaking, resume building, and more. The Youth Leadership Academy is open to students in grades 6 to 12 and will be held Wednesday afternoons, September 16 through October 28, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Youth are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones, grow as individuals, and learn how to make a lasting impact in their communities.

Registration is now open!

Come learn, connect, and discover how you can make a difference in Monrovia! For additional information, contact the MAP team at map@monroviaca.gov or 626- 932-5563.

Trader Joe's Headquarters Pre-Application Now Posted on Development Spotlight Page

The City has received a pre-application for the potential redevelopment of Trader Joe's corporate headquarters at 800 S. Shamrock Avenue. The conceptual proposal includes demolition of the existing office building and parking lot to make way for a new two-story headquarters totaling approximately 95,969 square feet, along with a new parking structure. The headquarters would continue to house Trader Joe's national offices, including administrative space, training facilities, and a tasting kitchen.

The proposal is in its early pre-application stage, and City staff is coordinating initial technical review. The project will require multiple discretionary approvals and environmental review under CEQA, and residents will have several opportunities for public input as it moves forward, including an anticipated neighborhood meeting and CEQA scoping meeting. We share this news early on so interested community members can follow along, share feedback/input with the applicant, which result in a better outcome for everyone.

Details on the proposal, along with other active development projects, are available on the recently updated Development Spotlight page!

Monrovia Fire & Rescue Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Regional Task Force Training in Canyon Park

On August 18, 20, and 22, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monrovia Fire & Rescue will host their quarterly Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) training drills in Canyon Park. The training will include neighboring fire agencies that are members of USAR Regional Task Force 4 (RTF4): Glendale, Pasadena, Monterey Park, Alhambra, San Gabriel, Arcadia, and Monrovia. These quarterly trainings allow our firefighters to enhance rescue skills and strengthen operational readiness to respond to technical rescue incidents safely and effectively.

Canyon Park will remain open throughout the training. Residents can expect to see fire trucks, equipment, and personnel on-site. Roads will remain open, but a small portion of access to trails may be briefly paused as needed to accommodate the drills.
