Meet the Community Development DirectorSheri

Sheri Bermejo has over 19 years of municipal planning experience, 15 of which have been in leadership roles. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies and Planning from the University of California, San Diego. Sheri has proudly served the City of Monrovia’s Community Development Department for the last nine years, initially as the Planning Division Manager and then as the Deputy Director.

Since 2015, Sheri has been pivotal in implementing the City of Monrovia’s land use plan and guiding large development projects along Huntington Drive and South Myrtle Avenue, as well as within the Station Square Transit Village.  Her approach to land use development always considers “the people” and offers a sensitive balance between preservation and economic growth.

Sheri’s leadership is guided by a core belief: behind every project and policy are the people who call Monrovia home. This human-centered approach drives her work with the Planning Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, and Development Review Committee, ensuring that decisions reflect the needs and aspirations of the community.

As the new Director, Sheri is excited about the opportunity to promote and grow the Monrovia Area Partnership (MAP) program, a community-driven initiative focused on building relationships, empowering residents, and fostering neighborhood pride. Strong community engagement is crucial for Sheri. It ensures that land use planning, building, and safety efforts reflect the community’s values, creating safe, vibrant, and well-planned neighborhoods for current and future generations.

Sheri and her husband are the proud parents of two daughters. In addition to her professional work, Sheri is a passionate advocate for children with special needs. In her free time, she enjoys every opportunity to support families with children with ultra-rare diseases.
