The Mission of the Monrovia Public Library Foundation is to raise funds to supplement public funding of the Library in order to ensure our Library can serve as an indispensable source of information, educational, cultural and technical opportunities in a user friendly state of the art facility.
What the Foundation Funds:
Technology and Infrastructure
MPLF funds capital improvements to the Monrovia Public Library, including the replacement of all of the public-use computers in the library over a 3-year period from 2023-2025. The Foundation's generous support ensures that Monrovians enjoy access to the latest technology and software. Two 3D printers for patrons’ use and filming equipment for virtual programming were Foundation purchases as well.
Literacy
The Foundation funds Adult Literacy Services, which provides one-to-one and group tutoring. A dedicated group of volunteers meets with learners 2-3 times per week. The program emphasizes building upon basic literacy skills such as reading, writing, and speaking English, computer skills, and health and financial literacy.
Summer Reading Program
Each year, the Foundation makes a generous donation to support the library's annual Summer Reading Program. The Summer Reading Program provides kids, teens, and adults fun programs and activities all summer long, instilling a love of reading that will last a lifetime.
Teen Advisory Board (TAB) Scholarships
Members of the library's TAB program, who are graduating from high school, may be eligible for the annual Foundation scholarships. To learn more or receive an application, reach out to Amanda Carey, Teen Services Librarian, at acarey@monroviaca.gov. Or call the library at 626-256-8274.
